The CZ 97B is the "big-bore" brother of the CZ 75, specifically designed for the American market. It takes the ergonomics and mechanical excellence of the 9mm flagship and scales it up to accommodate the .45 ACP cartridge. While it is physically imposing, it is widely regarded as one of the softest-shooting and most accurate production .45 ACP handguns ever made.
Super-Sized 75 Frame: While it looks like a standard CZ 75, the 97B is significantly larger in every dimension. The grip is noticeably thicker, and the trigger reach is longer, making it a better fit for shooters with larger hands.
Screw-In Barrel Bushing: Unlike the standard 75 series (which uses a fixed press-fit bushing), the 97B features a screw-in barrel bushing similar to a 1911. This helps center the barrel more precisely, contributing to its reputation for "target-grade" accuracy.
Double-Stack Capacity (10 Rounds): Despite being a double-stack design, the magazine capacity is limited to 10 rounds. This was an intentional choice during its 1997 debut (the era of the Federal Assault Weapons Ban) and results in a very robust, reliable magazine.
Loaded Chamber Indicator: A small pin on top of the slide provides both visual and tactile confirmation that a round is chambered—a rare feature on classic CZ steel-frame pistols.
Thin Aluminum Grips (Modern Models): Modern versions of the 97B ship with thin, checkered aluminum grip panels. These were added to help slim down the girth of the large frame, making it more manageable for a wider range of shooters.
DA/SA with Manual Safety: The "B" model features a traditional manual safety, allowing for Cocked & Locked (Condition 1) carry. There is also a 97 BD variant that replaces the safety with a decocking lever.
The 97B is significantly heavier and bulkier than the standard CZ 75 B:
As of 2022, CZ officially discontinued the 97B and 97BD. While it remains a favorite among .45 ACP enthusiasts, its production has ended to make room for newer platforms. It is now a high-demand item on the secondary market.
