The FN 509 LS Edge is the "Long Slide" flagship of the 509 family. Developed with input from elite shooters like Dave Sevigny and Tim Kennedy, it is a high-performance, out-of-the-box "race gun" designed for competition, duty, and home defense. It takes the battle-proven 509 action and refines it with a 5-inch target barrel and a lightened slide for extreme speed and precision.
Long Slide with Lightening Cuts: The extra slide length provides a massive 6.7-inch sight radius, making it much easier to achieve long-range accuracy. The aggressive "scalloped" lightening cuts serve two purposes: they reduce the slide's reciprocating mass (resulting in less muzzle flip) and provide extra grip for press checks.
The "Flat-Faced" Trigger Upgrade: Unlike the hinged trigger on standard 509s, the LS Edge features a factory-installed flat-faced trigger that breaks at a clean 90-degree angle. Combined with a new conical striker, it reduces the pull weight by approximately 1.5 lbs compared to standard models, usually breaking around 4.0–5.0 lbs.
Sandpaper-Style Grip Texture: Moving away from the traditional "pyramid" texture, the LS Edge frame features an extremely aggressive, sandpaper-like texture. It is designed to lock the gun into your hands during rapid fire, though it can be quite "bitey" for bare-skin concealed carry.
Flared Aluminum Magwell: To support lightning-fast reloads under the clock, the LS Edge comes with an integrated, graphite-anodized aluminum magwell.
Graphite PVD Finish: The slide and baseplates are finished in a unique Graphite PVD, which offers superior wear resistance and a high-end matte-gray aesthetic that contrasts with the black polymer frame.
Optics-Ready (MRD): It utilizes FN's patented Low-Profile Optics Mounting System, which fits nearly every major micro red dot on the market and allows them to co-witness with the included fiber-optic front sight.
While both are part of the "Edge" premium series, they serve very different roles:
Shooter's Note: The LS Edge frame is technically a "Midsize" frame modified to accept the bolt-on magwell. This means it uses 17-round magazines with specific weighted aluminum baseplates. Standard full-size 509 magazines will not fit without removing the magwell.
