February is American Heart Month and nothing says “let’s celebrate our hearts” like Valentine’s day. With Valentine’s day just around the corner, let’s take this opportunity to not only think about the hearts of our loved ones but think about our own hearts and the overall health of our hearts. Our hearts are one of our most vital organs and they work hard to keep us alive so it only makes sense that we should put in the effort to take proper care of them.

It is common for the two phrases to be used synonymously but they are not the same. A heart attack occurs when blood flow is shut down due to a blocked artery. Cardiac arrest occurs when an electrical malfunction of the heart causes the heart to stop beating. Despite the differences between these two events, they can both be fatal.
