SAM IO Intraosseous Needles are the sterile, single-use consumable that pairs with the SAM IO manual driver. Three lengths cover the full range of patient sizes you will encounter, from a thin pediatric tibia to a heavy adult humerus, and the visible stylet hub gives a clear confirmation cue during insertion. These are the new Gen II needles, which feature a tapered design, improved ergonomics, and a shorter overall profile.

Choosing needle length is really a question of who you treat. Services running mostly adult calls with proximal humerus placement lean on 45mm. Mixed-population agencies covering schools, community EMS, and family practice need all three on the truck. The 5-packs exist for the practical reason that IO needles get used in the worst moments and you do not want to discover your last one was expired.

Compatibility

These needles are designed for the SAM IO Intraosseous Access Driver (IO700). They can also be used on an EZ-IO driver when paired with the SAM IO Adaptor (IO742), which is sold separately or bundled with a single needle. The existing SAM IO Stabilizer (IO740-1P, IO740-5P) is confirmed compatible with the Gen II needle. Working length, cutting edges, boring capability, and ease of placement are unchanged from the previous generation, so no retraining is required. These are sterile clinical needles and are not interchangeable with SAM IO Training Needles, which are non-sterile and intended only for practice.
