Training Replica: BERETTA 92FS Compact

The Beretta 92F Compact (also known as the 92SB-F Compact during its early transition) is the "shortened" version of the classic military 92F. It was designed to offer the same rugged reliability and "F" series upgradeslike the Bruniton finish and chrome-lined borein a package that is significantly easier to conceal.

Key Engineering Differences

While the full-sized 92F was designed as a duty sidearm, the 92F Compact makes two specific "chops" to the geometry:

• The Slide/Barrel Chop: The barrel is shortened from 4.9 inches to 4.25 inches, making the pistol faster to draw and more comfortable when seated (as the holster doesn't dig into the thigh as much).

• The Grip Chop: The frame is shortened to accept a 13-round magazine (flush-fit). This is the most critical change for concealment, as the "butt" of the gun is usually what prints through clothing.

• The Beveled Magazine Well: Like its full-sized brother, the 92F Compact features a slightly flared/beveled magwell to assist with high-speed reloads under stress.

Technical Specifications

Comparison: 92F Compact vs. 92FS Compact

The distinction here is identical to the full-sized models:

• 92F Compact: Does not have the enlarged hammer pin. It is the original military-spec compact.

• 92FS Compact: Includes the enlarged hammer pin and slide-retention groove to prevent the slide from traveling rearward in the event of a catastrophic failure.

Magazine Compatibility

One of the best features of the 92F Compact is its backward compatibility.

• It can use its native 13-round magazines for maximum concealment.

• It can also use standard 15, 17, or 18-round magazines from the full-sized 92F/92FS. While they will protrude from the bottom of the grip, they function perfectly, making them ideal as backup spares.

The "Type M" Variant

If you encounter a 92F Compact that feels unusually thin, it might be a Type M. This was a specialized version that used a single-stack 8-round magazine. It is significantly slimmer and highly prized by collectors for its improved ergonomics, though it sacrifices the high capacity of the standard "Type L" double-stack model.
