Training Replica: FNX-40

The FNX-40 is the successor to the FNP-40 and serves as the .40 S&W middle sibling of the FNX family. It is a traditional DA/SA (Double Action/Single Action) hammer-fired pistol, designed for those who prefer the tactile feedback of a hammer and the versatility of a manual safety/decocker over modern striker-fired alternatives.

While the firearms industry has shifted heavily toward 9mm, the FNX-40 remains one of the most refined polymer-framed options for the .40 S&W cartridge, specifically engineered to handle the caliber's snappier recoil.

Key Design Elements

• Advanced Recoil Management: The FNX series features a unique slide/barrel geometry. The barrel and slide travel together for a longer distance before unlocking compared to other pistols. This allows the recoil spring to absorb more momentum, making the FNX-40 one of the softest-shooting .40-caliber handguns on the market.

• Fully Ambidextrous Controls: FN was a pioneer in true ambidexterity. The FNX-40 features dual-sided magazine releases, slide stops, and safety/decocker levers right out of the boxno swapping or "flipping" parts required.

• Versatile Manual Safety: The frame-mounted lever offers three positions:

  1. Up: Safety on (allows for "Cocked & Locked" carry like a 1911).

  2. Middle: Fire position.

  3. Down: Decocker (safely lowers the hammer from single-action to double-action).

• Magazine Compatibility: Unlike the older FNP series, the FNX-40 shares magazines with the FNS-40. This makes finding spare 14-round magazines significantly easier and more affordable in 2026.

• Rugged Construction: It features a cold hammer-forged stainless steel barrel and a polished chamber/feed ramp, ensuring it can feed a wide variety of hollow-point defensive ammunition reliably.

FNX-40 vs. FNX-9

The FNX-40 and FNX-9 share the exact same frame and slide dimensions, meaning they will fit in the same holsters. The primary difference is the chambering and capacity:

• FNX-40: 14+1 Rounds of .40 S&W.

• FNX-9: 17+1 Rounds of 9mm.
