Ruger LCR .38 Special with Crimson Trace Laser Grip

The Ruger LCR .38 Special with Crimson Trace Laser Grip is a compact, lightweight double-action revolver chambered for .38 Special (including +P loads), combined with a factory fitted Crimson Trace Lasergrip® sighting system. This integrated configuration enhances target acquisition and aiming capability, particularly in low-light or stress-oriented defensive scenarios, while maintaining the platforms characteristic ease of carry and handling.

Platform and Operating System

Caliber: .38 Special (+P capable).

Action: Double-action only (DAO) revolver with a patented friction-reducing cam fire control system that yields a smooth, consistent trigger pull.

Capacity: 5 rounds.

Frame: Monolithic aerospace-grade 7000-series aluminum frame that supports the cylinder and barrel as a single unit, reducing weight and contributing to recoil management.

Cylinder: High-strength stainless steel with extensive fluting to reduce mass and improve balance.

This combination of materials and design results in a revolver that is reliable, rugged, and manageable for everyday carry, with a platform geometry optimized for consistent performance.

Sights and Laser System

Crimson Trace Lasergrip®: Integrated laser sight built into the grip assembly, replacing standard grips. It features Instinctive Activation, which engages the laser when the firearm is held in a natural firing grip.

Laser Specifications: Red laser output at approximately 5 mW peak with a wavelength in the 633 nm range, with windage and elevation user adjustment for sighting. A Master On/Off switch permits the laser to be disabled when not in use to conserve battery life.

Activation: Positioned for intuitive engagement during the firing grip without altering grip or trigger pull.

The integrated laser system enhances rapid target alignment, especially in low-light conditions where traditional iron sights can be difficult to acquire.

Dimensions and Ergonomics

Barrel Length: Approximately 1.875 inches, contributing to a compact overall package.

Overall Length: Approximately 6.50 inches.

Height: Approximately 4.50 inches.

Weight: Approximately 13.0 ounces unloaded, maintaining light carry characteristics even with the laser grip installed.

Width: Approximately 1.31 inches, consistent with compact revolver dimensions.

Sights: Replaceable pinned ramp front sight with a white bar and integral U-notch rear sight for conventional aiming when the laser is not used.

The ergonomics of the LCR platform, coupled with a grip designed for laser integration, support secure handling and improved control considering the lightweight nature of the revolver.

Performance and Handling

Trigger System: The patented friction-reducing cam fire control system in the LCR yields a smooth, consistent double-action trigger pull that reduces perceived trigger stacking and supports controlled shooting.

Recoil Management: Lightweight frame with polymer fire control housing and fluted cylinder help reduce overall mass, but firing .38 Special +P remains lively; the ergonomics and grip texture are essential for control.

Defensive Suitability: The inclusion of the Crimson Trace Lasergrip® improves fast target alignment and can aid accuracy in defensive use, especially in low-light conditions where point-of-aim shot placement is critical.

Construction and Materials

Frame: Monolithic 7000-series aluminum for strength and weight savings.

Cylinder: Stainless steel extensively fluted for durability and reduced weight.

Finish: Matte black synergistic hard coat on metal surfaces for corrosion resistance and wear protection (may vary by specific production run).

Grip: Crimson Trace® rubberized laser grip with ergonomic contours and integrated laser system.

Materials and finish treatments are chosen to balance durability with concealment carry-friendly weight.

Intended Use and Market Position

The Ruger LCR .38 Special with Crimson Trace Laser Grip is positioned as a compact defensive revolver suitable for concealed carry, off-duty law enforcement backup use, and personal protection. The integration of a laser sighting system built into the grip enhances target acquisition time, particularly in emergency or low-light environments, without significantly increasing overall size or compromising carry comfort.

Summary

The Ruger LCR .38 Special with Crimson Trace Laser Grip combines:

A lightweight, compact revolver platform with a smooth DAO trigger system.

Integrated Crimson Trace laser grip with instinctive activation and user-adjustable windage/elevation.

Manageable dimensions and weight suitable for concealed carry.

Rugged construction with aerospace-grade aluminum frame and fluted stainless cylinder.

This configuration offers reliable performance and defensive enhancements appropriate for users seeking a small framed, mission-oriented revolver with built-in laser aiming capability.
