Erler Zimmer spinal columns have flexible intervertebral discs that compress on one side and expand on the opposite side when bent, just like in humans. The elastic discs prevent an unnatural gap from forming between the vertebral body and the disc when the spine is bent. All bone parts are moulded from a natural spine and show all structures, fissures, foramina and processus with anatomical accuracy. In addition to this exact reproduction of the individual vertebrae, particular emphasis was placed on mobility. By using an unbreakable, movable metal tube, the spine is permanently flexible and even after years of intensive use it is still as mobile as on the first day.
