A wildfire is an unplanned fire that burns in a natural area. They are often caused by lightning storms or humans and can happen anywhere, and at any time. A wildfire is fueled by dead underbrush that is dry from long periods without rain.
Ever since July 24th 2020 the west coast has been on fire. With the dry summer heat taking the moisture out of an already dry country, the dead and dry forage was only kindling for the massive fires that have laid waste to nearly 3,829,494 acres of land. As of September 18th 2020 only 3 of these massive fires have been contained.
Fighting wildfires costs the federal government billions of dollars every year, consuming structures, homes, wildlife, and even the lives of people unfortunate enough to be caught in its path. Fires move quickly and spread in multiple directions which can cause them to become unmanageable very quickly. The way in which you prepare and react to a fire can often be a matter of life or death within a matter of moments. Be prepared by having an emergency plan and kit to be ready to grab on the go for each member of the household.
