Hurricane Florence is beating down the East Coast with strong winds, intense storm surge, and a whole lot of rain. Make that an unbearable amount of rain. According to forecasters, Florence's rain will reach 40 inches in some parts of the Carolinas.
According to reports, just after landfall Friday morning Florence had already:
- Sapped power to more than 500,000 customers in North and South Carolina
- Forced 26,000 people into more than 200 emergency shelters across the Carolinas
- Prompted 4,000 National Guard soldiers and 40,000 electric workers to mobilize in response
- Canceled more than 1,100 flights along the East Coast on Friday and Saturday
Rainfall totals are expected to mirror those of hurricanes Dennis and Floyd in 1999. The only difference is, back then it happened over a 14-day period. Now, we're looking at the same amount of rainfall in three days.
With all this happening in such a short period of time, the hope for residents affected by this monster storm is that they prepared adequately and evacuated in time.
When a crisis occurs, early preparation is key to your chances of survival, whether you're at home, in the office, at school, or in a vehicle. For extreme weather events it's essential to have a kit with everything you need to manage the storm. The new CPR Savers 72-Hour Survival Backpack Kit is the ideal kit because it offers help in three key areas of emergency weather preparedness:
Survival
First, you need enough food, water, and basic supplies to stay alive. This survival kit provides enough food and water to last 2 people the first 72 hours of an emergency and comes with 2 personal hygiene kits and sanitation supplies for added comfort. Survival tools such as a 16-in-1 Pocket Tool, N95 NIOSH approved respirator mask, work gloves, safety goggles, and 50 feet of rope will help provide additional protection and ease during an emergency survival situation.
Shelter & First Aid
You never know how long a hurricane of other extreme weather event will last. Items such as a tent, sleeping bag, body warmers, and emergency ponchos help provide shelter to protect you from wind, sun, rain, snow, and other harsh weather conditions during and emergency survival situation. Included is an 80-piece first aid kit containing a variety of bandages, pain management, gauze, and tape to provide health care.
Communication & Lighting
You need to obtain news and information related to the storm, know where shelters are located or what steps you need to take to keep you and your family safe. Having an AM/FM radio, survival whistle, flashlight, matches, glow stick, and candle will all help during a power outage--or overnight while outdoors--while also potentially acting as a means of communication for your rescue or to assist in the rescue of others.
In addition to use during earthquakes, hurricanes, and tornadoes, the new CPR Savers 72-Hour Survival Backpack Kit is also useful for camping, biking, hiking, hunting, travelling, and climbing. A first aid guide is provided so anyone can use them. All these items are packed in a backpack for additional portability and makes it very easy to carry and access while outdoors, at home, or anywhere!
